While transiting between Brazil and Denmark, a young traveler finds themselves possessed by an ancient entity carrying messages from a future past. The entity has come to announce the end of linear time, tasking the dazzled traveler with the mission of journeying through time and space in order to move beyond the limitations of their human body and ultimately find the source of their true power. As the traveler moves from an airplane to mangroves, the Olympus, and into the ocean, they stumble across real and mythological figures alike, transcending the boundaries of this realm and unlocking memories long forgotten.
Like an intricate tapestry, FIGURE 8 slowly unfolds into a backwards coming-of-age that takes place within a surreal universe that is both part of and completely beyond our own. Each tale brims with folkloric influences ranging from Greek mythology to Afro-Indigenous Brazilian cosmologies, resulting in a unique and fascinating story about the power we have to transform ourselves. Through an unconventional and visionary approach to literary traditions, Silva aspires to become part of a larger canon of contemporary artists who utilize autofiction as a means to rehearse alternative worlds where possibility has yet to die by the hands of definition.
