Om SPACE 28

ALL:

The queer bookstore, meeting place and cultural association PAGE 28 has been granted a grant from the MUCF - The Authority for Youth and Civil Society Affairs. The grant refers to a project that will establish a meeting place that will creatively engage young LGBTQIA+ people, with a focus on racialized LGBTQIA+ people and LGBTQIA+ people living in socioeconomically vulnerable conditions. The target group is LGBTQIA+ people who are 13-25 years old.

The project named SPACE 28 intends to start in September 2022 and extend until June 2023. The starting point for SPACE 28 is that it should be a welcoming, norm-critical and norm-breaking meeting place that works to create a safer space for  HBTQIA+ people who are not covered by the white, cisheteronormative majority society. Within this meeting place, it is important that we jointly create an environment where the participants feel belonging and community. At the same time, SPACE 28 will also contribute to activating and developing the creative sides of young people.

In addition to the creative engagement of young LGBTQIA+ people, the meeting place SPACE 28 will also offer fun and chill hangouts. Meeting other like-minded people in an open and undemanding way is important for building safe and long-lasting relationships with people around you. It can be anything from cozy movie nights to competitive game nights.

A rich cultural background and the opportunity to take part in art and culture and to engage creatively is a privilege that many do not get to experience, especially racialized and people living in socioeconomically vulnerable conditions. In addition, it is another obstacle that is put in the way of the opportunity to take part in queer culture and LGBTQIA+ history. For that reason, the project and future meeting place SPACE 28 aim to change this and ensure that together we create, criticize and take part in culture in different ways.

Does this sound fun? Are YOU interested in participating or following the progress of the project in one way or another? Cool!
